The Vortex Tool 5060 is a Series 5000 two-flute low-helix upcut roughing spiral built for productive first-pass material removal on CNC routers. Vortex positions this family for dense materials where high feed capability matters more than final edge appearance.

Its low-helix design is less aggressive than Vortex's standard Series 1000/1100 and 1600/1700 roughing geometries. This reduces lifting and fluttering of the workpiece while retaining the quiet, smooth cutting behaviour Vortex specifies for heavy cuts and high feed rates.

The verified 5060 configuration uses a 1/2-inch cutting-edge diameter, 1-3/4-inch cutting-edge length, 1/2-inch shank, current official 4-inch overall length, two roughing flutes, low-helix upcut geometry, solid-carbide construction, and right-hand rotation. It produces a rippled rough-cut edge and is best followed by a finishing or profile pass when final edge quality is required.

Compatibility & Installation Notes

Confirm a clean, undamaged 1/2-inch collet or compatible holder, correct right-hand spindle rotation, adequate shank engagement, safe projection for the 4-inch overall length, machine RPM limits, feed rate, cut depth, workpiece support, workholding, and chip evacuation before use. Upcut geometry directs chips toward the spindle and may lift marginally held parts, so additional hold-down or stepped cutting may be required. This rougher intentionally leaves a rippled edge; use a separate finishing or profile pass where final edge quality is required.
