The SCM Startech CN V is a compact CNC drilling machine designed for woodworking shops that need repeatable drilling and grooving capability without the footprint or investment level of a larger CNC machining centre. It is a strong fit for cabinet shops, closet manufacturers, furniture producers, custom casework shops, millwork shops, training departments, and small-to-medium production environments.
The machine uses a fixed worktable with mobile workpiece handling. This compact machine concept supports vertical drilling on the panel surface, horizontal drilling on all four sides, and X-axis grooving with an integrated disc cutter. The above-panel operating head and mobile clamp with floating opening help stabilize the panel during machining and support better repeatability than manual boring setups.
The Startech CN V processes panels up to 3000 × 900 × 50 mm and down to 300 × 90 × 10 mm, with maximum X/Y axis speed of 20 m/min. The drilling head includes 7 independent vertical spindles arranged 4X + 4Y with one shared spindle, 4 horizontal spindles arranged 1 + 1 in X and 1 + 1 in Y, and an integrated fixed blade for X-direction grooving.
SCM lists the integrated blade at 125 mm diameter and 6 mm thickness, with 2.2 kW motor power, 4460 rpm spindle rotation speed, and 5700 rpm blade rotation speed. For operator control, the machine includes a 10-inch touchscreen and supports importing drilling programs from SCM Maestro software, making it a practical first CNC drilling machine for shops building a more structured production workflow.
