Xtreme Performance Geometry
Series 3100XP geometry is manufactured for demanding melamine, HPL particle board, and MDF routing where tool life is a primary concern.

A Vortex Tool Series 3100XP two-flute solid-carbide mortise compression spiral with a 3/8-inch cutting diameter, 7/8-inch cutting-edge length, 1/4-inch upcut length, 3/8-inch shank, and 3-inch overall length. The XP geometry is engineered for demanding melamine, high-pressure laminated particle board, and MDF routing where clean two-sided edges and extended service life are production priorities.
This Series 3100XP router bit combines upcut and downcut flute sections with Vortex Xtreme Performance geometry and a 1/4-inch mortise upcut section to support chip-free top and bottom edges in compatible laminated panel materials.
Designed for compatible CNC routers and routing machines using a correctly sized 3/8-inch collet or toolholder. Confirm spindle rotation, tool projection, workpiece thickness, cut depth, RPM, feed, workholding, and chip evacuation before production use.
The Vortex Tool 3185XP is part of the Series 3100XP two-flute “Xtreme Performance” compression-spiral range. Its upcut and downcut flute sections compress the cut toward the centre of the panel, helping prevent chipping or fuzzing along both the top and bottom edges.
Vortex manufactures the XP series for melamine, high-pressure laminated particle board, and MDF applications that can shorten the service life of standard compression tooling. Vortex states that the XP geometry can provide three to five times more tool life than its standard compression geometry while maintaining a chip-free edge on both faces of compatible materials.
The verified 3185XP configuration uses a 3/8-inch cutting-edge diameter, 7/8-inch cutting-edge length, 3/8-inch shank, 3-inch overall length, 0.250-inch mortise upcut section, two flutes, and right-hand rotation. The official mortise designation identifies the 1/4-inch upcut configuration for mortise cuts or thin materials.
Technical Specifications
Series 3100XP geometry is manufactured for demanding melamine, HPL particle board, and MDF routing where tool life is a primary concern.
Combined upcut and downcut flute sections compress the cut toward the panel centre to support clean edges on both faces.
The 3/8-inch format pairs a 7/8-inch cutting length with a 0.250-inch upcut section intended for mortise cuts or thin materials.
Confirm a clean, undamaged 3/8-inch collet or compatible holder, correct right-hand spindle rotation, adequate shank engagement, safe tool projection, machine RPM limits, feed rate, cut depth, panel support, workholding, and chip evacuation before use. Program the toolpath so the 0.250-inch upcut section and compression transition are positioned correctly within the workpiece for the intended mortise or thin-material cut.
Vortex Tool 3185XP combines Series 3100XP two-flute Xtreme Performance compression geometry with a verified 3/8-inch cutting diameter, 7/8-inch cutting length, 0.250-inch mortise upcut, 3/8-inch shank, and 3-inch overall length.
The solid-carbide design is engineered for demanding laminated panel and MDF applications where clean edges on both faces, a mortise-oriented upcut section, and extended service life are important production goals.
