The Viper combines upcut and downcut flute sections to support clean top and bottom edges in compatible double-sided laminated materials.
This Series 3100 tool uses opposing upcut and downcut spiral sections to compress the workpiece faces toward the centre of the panel, helping reduce chipping or fuzzing on both surfaces.
Designed for compatible CNC routers and routing machines using a clean, correctly sized 1/4-inch collet or toolholder. Confirm right-hand spindle rotation, adequate shank engagement, minimum practical projection, secure workholding, cut depth, RPM, feed, and chip evacuation before production use.
The Vortex Tool 3110 belongs to Series 3100, officially named “The Viper” two-flute compression spiral range. Compression geometry combines an upcut section near the tool tip with a downcut section above it, directing cutting forces toward the centre of the material to support clean top and bottom edges.
Vortex specifies this series for double-sided laminates including melamine, vinyl-faced panels, high-pressure laminates, and painted board. The manufacturer does not recommend the standard Series 3100 geometry for material thinner than 5/8 inch.
The verified 3110 configuration uses a 1/4-inch cutting-edge diameter, 7/8-inch cutting-edge length, 1/4-inch shank, 3-inch overall length, and 1/4-inch upcut length. Correct collet condition, low spindle runout, suitable cut depth, secure workholding, and appropriate feed and RPM are essential to stable compression routing.

The standard Series 3100 geometry is not recommended for materials thinner than 5/8 inch; ensure the toolpath engages the compression sections appropriately for the panel thickness.
