Vortex Tool Series 3100 The Viper Two-Flute Compression Spiral Router Bit – 1/4 in Diameter x 7/8 in Cutting Length
Two-Flute Compression
The Viper
A Vortex Tool Series 3100 solid-carbide two-flute compression spiral router bit with a 1/4-inch cutting diameter, 7/8-inch cutting-edge length, 1/4-inch shank, 3-inch overall length, and 1/4-inch upcut length. The Viper combines upcut and downcut flute sections to support clean top and bottom edges in compatible double-sided laminated materials.
Main Product Description
The Vortex Tool 3110 belongs to Series 3100, officially named “The Viper” two-flute compression spiral range. Compression geometry combines an upcut section near the tool tip with a downcut section above it, directing cutting forces toward the centre of the material to support clean top and bottom edges.
Vortex specifies this series for double-sided laminates including melamine, vinyl-faced panels, high-pressure laminates, and painted board. The manufacturer does not recommend the standard Series 3100 geometry for material thinner than 5/8 inch.
The verified 3110 configuration uses a 1/4-inch cutting-edge diameter, 7/8-inch cutting-edge length, 1/4-inch shank, 3-inch overall length, and 1/4-inch upcut length. Correct collet condition, low spindle runout, suitable cut depth, secure workholding, and appropriate feed and RPM are essential to stable compression routing.
Best Fit Applications
Product Highlights
Two-Sided Edge Control
Opposing upcut and downcut flute sections compress the panel faces toward the centre to help reduce chipping and fuzzing on both surfaces.
The Viper Geometry
Vortex developed the Series 3100 flute form for strong cutting performance and extended useful sharpening life in compatible laminated panel applications.
Verified 1/4-Inch Format
The 1/4-inch cutting diameter and shank are paired with a 7/8-inch cutting length, 3-inch OAL, and 1/4-inch upcut section.
Compatibility & Installation Notes
Confirm a clean, undamaged 1/4-inch collet or compatible toolholder, correct right-hand spindle rotation, adequate shank engagement, minimum practical projection, machine RPM limits, feed rate, chip evacuation, workholding, and cut depth before use. The standard Series 3100 geometry is not recommended for materials thinner than 5/8 inch; ensure the toolpath engages the compression sections appropriately for the panel thickness.
Two-Sided Laminate Finish
Vortex Tool 3110 combines The Viper two-flute compression geometry with a verified 1/4-inch diameter, 7/8-inch cutting length, and 1/4-inch upcut section for compatible double-sided laminated panel routing.
Correct 1/4-inch collet fit, low spindle runout, appropriate cut depth, secure workholding, suitable feed and RPM, and effective chip evacuation are essential to stable cutting performance.
