The Vortex Tool 1340 is the standard right-hand member of the Series 1300 two-flute downcut finishing spiral range. Vortex lists a separate left-hand-rotation counterpart. Vortex positions this geometry for operations where the down-shearing effect is preferred and top-edge finish is more important than the bottom edge of the cut.
The downcut spiral directs chip flow downward while helping hold parts against a table or pod. In nested cutting, the routed path can remain packed with chips, which may help preserve vacuum around the workpiece when the toolpath, dust collection, and machine setup are correctly matched.
The verified 1340 configuration uses a 3/8-inch cutting-edge diameter, 1-1/4-inch cutting-edge length, 3/8-inch shank, and 3-inch overall length. Correct collet condition, spindle runout, tool projection, ramped entry, feed rate, RPM, cut depth, chip evacuation, and workholding remain essential to finish quality and tool life.
