Main Product Description

The Vortex Tool 4630 is a Series 4600 single-edge low-helix upcut spiral router bit developed for softer plastic-routing applications. Its single cutting edge provides aggressive material removal, while the low-helix design moderates the spiral action for a fast, clean cut.

Vortex specifically recommends the Series 4600 family where chip rewelding is a problem. The upcut flute carries chips away from the cutting zone toward the spindle side of the workpiece, supporting evacuation when machine extraction, feed rate, RPM, and toolpath are correctly matched to the plastic.

The verified 4630 configuration uses a 1/4-inch cutting-edge diameter, 3/8-inch cutting-edge length, 1/4-inch shank, 3-inch overall length, one low-helix flute, upcut geometry, solid-carbide construction, and right-hand rotation. Correct collet condition, spindle runout, projection, feed, RPM, workholding, and chip evacuation are essential to finish quality and tool life.

Product Highlights

01

Single-Edge Cutting Action

The single cutting edge provides aggressive chip formation and material removal in compatible softer plastic grades.

02

Low-Helix Control

The lower helix moderates spiral action while supporting the fast, clean cutting behaviour specified for the Series 4600 family.

03

Chip-Rewelding Focus

Vortex recommends this geometry for softer-plastic applications where heat-affected chips can reweld to the cut edge.

Compatibility & Installation Notes

Confirm a clean, undamaged 1/4-inch collet or compatible holder, correct right-hand spindle rotation, adequate shank engagement, safe tool projection, machine RPM limits, feed rate, plastic grade, workpiece support, workholding, and chip evacuation before use. Upcut geometry directs chips toward the spindle and can introduce lifting force, so marginally held parts may require improved vacuum or mechanical support. Final feed and speed values must be established for the machine, plastic formulation, cut depth, and required finish.

Fast Low-Helix Plastic Routing

Vortex Tool 4630 combines Series 4600 single-edge low-helix upcut geometry with a verified 1/4-inch cutting diameter, 3/8-inch cutting length, 1/4-inch shank, and 3-inch overall length.

The solid-carbide design is intended for compatible softer plastics where aggressive single-flute action, a clean cut, and control of chip rewelding are important production goals.
